Identity
Who am I? This is one of the most fundamental questions that human beings are trying to find an answer to. People find their identities in different facets of life – one person might respond “I am an engineer” while the next might say “I am a mother”.
Imagine for a moment being a prince or princess in a royal family in the stories of old. Living in a big gorgeous castle, a room with the best view over the meadows, servants to take care of your every need, the palace guard there for your protection. Your father is the wise King and your mother the caring Queen.
I am sure if you asked any of the royal children, the answer would first and foremost be “I am the princess!” With a hint of “How do you not know that?!”. 🙂 The princess might be a talented musician too, but her being royalty is who she is.
Romans 8:14-15 (WEBBE): 14For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are children of God. 15For you didn’t receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”
Read the verses again, slowly, paying attention to every single word! THIS IS YOU!
We are orphans no longer. Now we are children of God, and we can call Him “Abba! Father!”. And if the King is our Father, that makes us royalty too!
Our Father is the best kind of King imaginable – He is the God that IS love!
1 John 4:8 (WEBBE): 8He who doesn’t love doesn’t know God, for God is love.
Now if an earthly king would go to great lengths to protect his family, how much more would God stand with us in every situation?
Romans 8:31 (WEBBE): 31What then shall we say about these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32He who didn’t spare his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how would he not also with him freely give us all things?
I am a child of the Almighty God, and He loves me no matter what! This is who I am!
