Temple of the Holy Spirit

What is the first thing that comes to mind if you hear the word “temple”? Or how about “church”? I bet that the first image that comes to mind is a building. A place that people go to. But the reality of the matter is that we are the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in each of us.

1 Corinthians 3:16-17 (WEBBE): 16Don’t you know that you are a temple of God, and that God’s Spirit lives in you? 17If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him; for God’s temple is holy, which you are.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (WEBBE): 19Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.

And together we are the body of Christ in this world, built into a strong structure like living stones.

1 Corinthians 12:27 (WEBBE):27Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually.

1 Peter 2:5 (WEBBE): 5You also, as living stones, are built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

God is not far from us. He is not living in only in some buildings some of the time. He is with us and in us every single moment of every day. He is never too busy and our lives are never too insignificant for Him to notice. In fact, He invites us into a relationship with Him.

Jesus is standing at the door of your heart right now, knocking. Will you open up?
